الْحَلِيمُ

Al-halim

1. Explanation of the Name

Al‑Ḥalīm comes from the root ح‑ل‑م (Ḥ‑L‑M), meaning “to be gentle,” “to be patient,” and “to forgive.” This Name proclaims that Allah is The Most Forbearing, who shows great patience with His servants, overlooking their faults and responding with mercy rather than immediate punishment.

As The Gentle and Patient One, He restrains His wrath, giving time for repentance and growth, and bestows forgiveness to those who turn back to Him.

2. About This Name

Al‑Ḥalīm appears in the Qur’an to remind us of Allah’s compassionate patience and His willingness to forgive persistent sinners who repent.

Invoking Al‑Ḥalīm reassures us that no matter how many times we err, His patience endures, inviting us to seek His mercy with confidence.
