الْحَكَمُ

Al-hakam

1. Explanation of the Name

Al‑Ḥakam comes from the root ح‑ك‑م (Ḥ‑K‑M), meaning “to judge,” “to decide,” and “to arbitrate.” This Name proclaims that Allah is The Supreme Judge, whose judgments are perfectly just, wise, and free from error.

As The Ultimate Arbiter, He evaluates all actions, intentions, and circumstances with absolute fairness. His decrees establish justice across all creation.

2. About This Name

Al‑Ḥakam appears in the Qur’an to remind us that every dispute and deed will be judged by His flawless wisdom.

“Then is one who lays the foundation of his building on righteousness [in religion] more suitable or one who lays the foundation of his building on the edge of a banked torrent to crack it apart…? And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.”
— Qur’an 9 : 109

Recognizing Allah as Al‑Ḥakam encourages us to act with integrity, knowing that all our choices will be adjudicated with perfect equity.

3. Spiritual Reflection

Reflecting on Al‑Ḥakam invites us to seek His guidance in our decisions, aligning our will with divine justice and wisdom.

“And those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, and when they are angry they forgive.”
— Qur’an 42 : 37
