الْعَدْلُ

Al-ʿAdl

1. Explanation of the Name

Al‑ʿAdl comes from the root ع‑د‑ل (ʿ‑D‑L), meaning “to be just,” “to balance,” and “to set right.” This Name proclaims that Allah is The Most Just, whose every decree and action is founded on perfect equity and fairness.

As The Absolute Arbitrator, He administers justice in all matters—rewarding the righteous, rectifying wrongs, and ensuring that no soul is wronged in the least.

2. About This Name

Al‑ʿAdl appears in the Qur’an to remind us that ultimate justice rests with Allah, who balances every aspect of creation with wisdom.

“Indeed, Allah commands justice and the doing of good…”
— Qur’an 16 : 90

Recognizing Allah as Al‑ʿAdl encourages us to uphold justice in our own dealings, emulate His fairness, and trust that He will right every imbalance.

3. Spiritual Reflection

Reflecting on Al‑ʿAdl invites us to examine our judgments, strive for fairness in word and deed, and rely on Allah’s perfect justice when confronted with injustice.

“…And those who, when they judge between people, judge with justice…”
— Qur’an 4 : 58
