Al-ʿAlim


1. Explanation of the Name

Al‑ʿAlīm comes from the root ع‑ل‑م (ʿ‑L‑M), meaning “to know,” “to be aware,” and “to teach.” This Name proclaims that Allah is The All‑Knowing, whose knowledge encompasses all that was, is, and will be.

As The Source of Ultimate Knowledge, He fully comprehends every thought, intention, and action, from the vast cosmos to the hidden cells within us.

Al‑ʿAlīm appears throughout the Qur’an to remind us that nothing is hidden from His awareness.

“And with Him are the keys of the unseen; none knows them except Him. And He knows what is on the land and in the sea…”
