As-Samiʿ

1. Explanation of the Name

As‑Samīʿ comes from the root س‑م‑ع (S‑M‑ʿ), meaning “to hear,” “to listen,” and “to perceive.” This Name proclaims that Allah is The All‑Hearing, whose ears encompass every sound—spoken, unspoken, and hidden.

As The One Who Hears All, He is attentive to every whisper of the heart and every call for help, granting response and justice to those who turn to Him.

2. About This Name

As‑Samīʿ appears in the Qur’an alongside As‑Basīr to emphasize Allah’s perfect perception of both sounds and sights.

“And We have already created the heavens and earth and whatever is between them in six days, and We are not touched by fatigue. So forgive with gracious forgiveness.”
— Qur’an 50 : 38

Invoking As‑Samīʿ reassures us that every sincere duʿā, lament, or plea is heard by Him, even when voices go unheard by others.

3. Spiritual Reflection

Reflecting on As‑Samīʿ encourages us to listen deeply—to Allah, to our hearts, and to the needs of others—and to speak with intention and compassion.

“And when My servants ask you concerning Me—indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me.”
— Qur’an 2 : 186
