Ar‑Raqīb comes from the root ر‑ق‑ب (R‑Q‑B), meaning “to watch,” “to observe,” and “to guard.” This Name proclaims that Allah is The Ever‑Watchful Guardian, who monitors every action, thought, and intention of all creation with perfect vigilance.

As The Watcher, His guardianship ensures that nothing goes unnoticed—He protects, guides, and responds to His servants’ needs at every moment.

Ar‑Raqīb appears in the Qur’an to remind believers that Allah’s watchful care encompasses all affairs, both hidden and apparent.

“Indeed, the hearing, the sight, and the heart—about all those [one] will be questioned.”
