Al‑Jalīl comes from the root ج‑ل‑ل (J‑L‑L), meaning “to be great,” “to be majestic,” and “to be revered.” This Name proclaims that Allah is The Majestic, The Honored, whose grandeur and dignity are unmatched and command the highest reverence.

As The Sublime One, He is exalted above all creation in majesty and honor, and every attribute of greatness reflects His noble essence.

2. About This Name

Al‑Jalīl appears in the Qur’an to remind us of Allah’s majestic authority and the honor due to Him alone.

“He is Allah; there is no deity except Him — the Sovereign, the Pure, the Source of Peace, the Bestower of Faith, the Overseer, the Exalted in Might, the Compeller, the Superior, the Most Generous, the Forgiving, the Responsive, the Majestic (Al‑Jalīl), the Wise.”
