الْغَفَّارُ

Al-Ghaffar

1. Explanation of the Name

Al‑Ghaffār comes from the root غ‑ف‑ر (GH‑F‑R), meaning “to forgive,” “to cover,” and “to conceal.” This Name declares that Allah is The Ever‑Forgiving, who continually pardons sins and veils our faults with His boundless mercy.

As The All‑Forgiving, His pardon is endless—no mistake too great, no repentance too small. He not only forgives but covers and restores dignity to His servants.

2. About This Name

Al‑Ghaffār appears throughout the Qur’an to remind believers of Allah’s immense mercy and readiness to forgive sincere repentance.

“O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the All‑Forgiving (Al‑Ghaffār), the Most Merciful.”
— Qur’an 39 : 53

Invoking Al‑Ghaffār in our prayers opens the door to sincere repentance, assuring us that no sin remains when we turn back with humility.

3. Spiritual Reflection

Reflecting on Al‑Ghaffār fills the heart with hope—however often we err, His mercy awaits. It calls us to return to Him with sincerity.

“And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our Protector…”
— Qur’an 3 : 147
